Your dog can learn faster than you think...let us show you how
Dogs love to learn, and one of the best things you can teach your pup is HOW to learn. Sounds weird, I know. I thought so too when I first heard it, but that old saying "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is completely FALSE...if your dog learned to learn at a young age.
That is why I designed my classes and private programs to accelerate your dog's ability to learn and increase the positive behaviors you want to see in your dog from day one. Why wait for a class to start in a few weeks, when you and your dog can be learning the day after you bring them home?

At Train the Dawg we run our classes a bit differently than most places. Rather than the typical 6 week session, where you have to wait for the next one to start, our classes run continually. One reason is that dogs don’t learn in only 6 week sessions, they never stop learning.
The second reason is that I always felt it was unfair when an owner / handler signed up for classes, and if they missed classes because they were competing with their dog or life just got in the way, they wouldn’t get credit for those classes. Personally, I got tired of losing money when I missed class because I was competing with my dogs.
And thirdly, for those of us with multiple dogs, it gets expensive to sign up for all those classes.
At Train the Dawg, we’ve come up with a solution that we think works for everyone. A 10-class punch card that you purchase and can then use for any of your dogs and for any class level they are qualified for. That means you may have Acorn in handling every two weeks, Gypsy in Puppy Foundations and Socialization every week, Bounce in Advance Rally and Scent Work, and Acorn in Intermediate Rally. And that could all change next month based on what your dogs are competing in or need.
That one Perfect Punch Card covers it all.
The Perfect Punch Card also gives you the opportunity to earn a free punch card by passing it along to a friend when you have completed 10 classes. When your friend signs up and has purchased 3 Perfect Punch Cards, you get a punch card FREE.
It’s our way of saying Thank You for the referral.
This is for puppies under 6 months and will focus on the basic behaviors that lead to rock solid dogs. Lots of focus on helping our pups become bulletproof rockstars that can handle most of what life may throw their way. Socialization is a big part of puppyhood and is a great way to see how your pup handles meeting new dogs and their varied play styles. It's also a great way to see if there are behaviors we don't like as puppies that we can focus on to reduce the chances of them becoming problem dogs.
The foundation of any good dog is for them to understand how to live in our world. Because, let’s face it, if we left it up to them, life would be party every day.
Adolescent and Adult Manners if for any dog over 6 months who needs to learn basic manners or who may know some of the basic commands, but is still pushing your buttons on a daily basis. Don’t worry, you may have done everything right in a puppy class, it may be that you got one of the stubborn dogs who like to test and need a bit of reinforcement to be the perfect dog for you.
That could be a dog that is learning basics so they can go on to compete in sports, a dog that you can go hiking with on the weekends, or the best couch potato…it’s all up to you to decide what makes the perfect dog for you.
Our ongoing class will not only teach you behaviors you may have missed in a puppy class, but we will also test your dog with fun games that challenge them and create more real world scenarios.
Whether you are a new puppy owner or have had dogs in the past, I’ll help you find the program that is perfect for you and your dog. My private training programs are designed with you and your dog in mind. From what is the bare minimum to have a Happy House Dog to the more advanced My Dog Rocks, that will have your friends asking if your dog can come over to play. Each program is designed to gain the most learning in the shortest amount of time, and take advantage of your dog’s natural ability to learn and please.
Do you walk your dog late at night, when the streetlights are on, so your neighbors don’t see your dog pulling you down the street?
Tired of icing your shoulder after walking your dog because your dog pulls on your entire walk? Or have you just given up walking your dog all together because it’s just not fun?
You don’t need special equipment to walk a dog. You just need to learn the right way to train your dog. I can’t even tell you how many times each week this question comes up in certain Facebook groups, especially in the Siberian Husky groups.
And every time it does, my contribution to the conversation is “Teach your dog to walk politely on leash” with an explanation of why the equipment won’t help if the dog doesn’t understand what they are expected to do.Teaching a dog to walk politely on lead is actually quite simple, once you understand what motivates your dog on a walk.
Walk with Me was created to teach you and your dog what is expected on a walk and how to get your dog walking politely on a loose lead ALL THE TIME. If you are tired of sore shoulders, disapproving looks from your neighbors, or maybe your dog’s excess energy in the house because they aren’t getting enough exercise, this is the program for you.
My dog would love to Walk with Me
(Prerequisite: Walk with Me or evaluation)
Ever wonder how other dogs can be so calm in almost every situation? They get to go for walks downtown, enjoy a concert in the park with their owners, or just take a walk with their best doggy friends with no drama. If your dog walks great on a leash in your neighborhood, a place they are super familiar with, but can’t handle the excitement of additional stimuli, A Walk in the Park is the class for you. Your dog will get to explore new places, along with other dogs who need a bit more focus, so you can help your dog overcome the excitement of new places, people, and dogs. Learn how to say “No, you can’t pet my dog” when asked (Yup, it’s okay to say NO), how to handle crowded areas, and how to read your dog so you can keep them comfortable and safe while they learn that you always have their back.
Is your dog constantly distracted by EVERYTHING around him? Does a ride in the car result in your pup jumping from window to window, barking at everything he sees? Is she constantly blowing you off when you call her, even in the house, and only coming to you when she wants to?Your dog still loves you, they just need to learn a bit of focus. Let’s face it, the world is an exciting place, and some dogs just want to be a part of it all.Focused Fido will help your dog stay focused on you no matter what is going on around them, so you become the BEST thing in their world.
Your dog just got the invitation to join you for dinner when dining out in many areas. Dinner at home with Rover lying quietly by your table is generally uneventful. But take your dog to a restaurant, add a few other people, and another dog or two, and that whole scenario can change…. Quickly.
What if you could rely on your dog to be the best behaved dog at the restaurant? The one that is invited to your friends’ cookouts and parties as well, The one that everyone wishes their dogs behaved like.I designed Restaurant Ready Rover to teach you and your dog just what you will need to be the envy of your dinner mates who had to leave their dogs at home, while yours lies quietly by your side soaking up the sun at your favorite cafe or dinner spot.
By the end of the program your dog will know what is expected when you are out with them, where their spot is at the table, and who they can interact with. You will leave with a special gift with all the tools to make dining out with your dog a piece of cake.
Even if your dog frustrates you sometimes, she can still be a Canine Good Citizen. This is one of the first titles many people put on their dogs, and any dog can earn this title. Working on just 10 simple behaviors can show the world what a Good Dog you have, and it’s something you can train for in your own home or yard. You can even get a Certificate and Title so your dog can brag to their doggy friends. Find out how easy it is to earn for your dog to become a Canine Good Citizen.
Add just 5 more behaviors and your dog can earn their Novice Trick Dog title. It just makes sense to teach these two together and show your friends just how well behaved and cool your dog really is.
This is for any dog who is headed for the conformation ring or is already there and needs to work on their skills a bit. This class is open to all ages, from BPUP to Specials.
Ever wonder why your dog is constantly sniffing around? That’s because their sense of smell is 10,000 - 100,000 better than ours.
Why not let your dog sniff to their heart’s content, turning that desire and natural ability into a rewarding sport. And it’s a great way to build confidence in a shy dog or a dog who just can’t seem to focus.
Scent work requires the dog and handler to work as a team, with the handler relying on the dog to find the hidden target odor, give the handler a signal, and the handler then relays that to the judge. But it is really your dog who is the star of the game!
Any dog over 6 months is eligible for class, providing they understand basic manners commands.
Requirements for class:
6-foot leash
Buckle or martingale collar
Super high value treats
Handler and dog team ready to have fun
Imagine you and your dog navigating a course, side by side, following the instructions on 10 - 20 signs designed to test your skills as a team.
That’s Rally!
Your dog remains under your control, working on your left side, as you work towards performing each skill with ease and within the time allotted.
Rally is sport where you get to show off your teamwork and intelligence, and is a perfect starting point into the world of competitive canine sports.
You already know your dog is NOSEY, why not use that natural ability to give them a new sport to do.Tracking is one of the easiest sports you can do with your dog.
And it’s one of the easiest to practice because you can do it almost anywhere.Your dog can smell things way better than you can, like 100,000 times better. Why not put that to good use and give him something he will enjoy, and learn how to work together as a team.Find out how scent works, how your dog smells things (you will wish you had their sense of smell), and how to read your dog when he is on a track. And if you want to add a few letters behind your dog’s name, you will learn about tracking trials and how to know if your dog is ready.

My fascination with canine behavior led me to specialize in it academically, focusing on both dogs and wolves. This deep understanding shapes my student training programs, emphasizing the importance of comprehending a dog's actions to integrate them into our world.
With over two decades of experience in dog and wolf behavior, each animal I've worked with has taught me something new, including my own dogs. My career has spanned competitive dog sports and managing a kennel, where I've worked with a variety of dogs, from reactive ones to champions in agility, obedience, and more. Living with three sporty dogs, I'm constantly reminded that every dog has a unique learning style.
This insight is at the heart of my tailored training programs, aimed at helping owners achieve their dream relationship with their dogs.
